Terms of Service

Last updated

This is a template, not legal advice. It reflects how NowWhat currently works, but it has not been reviewed by a solicitor. Have it checked before relying on it — especially the sections limiting liability, which are only enforceable within limits set by law.

These terms cover your use of NowWhat. They're written to be read, not to be impressive. The short version: it's a free tool that suggests careers you might suit, the suggestions are a starting point rather than advice, and we ask you to use it sensibly.

Agreeing to these terms

By using NowWhat you accept these terms. If you don’t accept them, please don’t use the site.

If you are under 18, that is fine — the service is built with you in mind — but please make sure a parent, carer or teacher knows you are using it, and ask them before creating an account if you are under 13.

What NowWhat is

NowWhat asks you a short set of questions and compares your answers against a set of careers to suggest which ones might suit you. It shows you those matches, roughly what the work involves, typical pay ranges and the usual routes in.

The core quiz and your top matches are free. Some features may be paid in future; if so, the price and what you get will be clear before you pay anything.

What NowWhat is not — please read this one

Your results are guidance, not a guarantee, and not professional careers advice. They are produced by comparing your answers to a dataset. They do not know your circumstances, your grades, your finances, your health, or anything else that matters to a real decision.

  • A high match does not mean you will get a job in that field, or that you would enjoy it.
  • A low match does not mean you can't do something, or shouldn't try.
  • Pay ranges and demand indicators are general estimates, not offers, and they change.
  • Education and training routes are typical examples, not a complete or current list of entry requirements.

Treat the results as a prompt for conversations with people who know you and the field — a careers adviser, a teacher, someone already doing the job. Please don’t make an irreversible decision on the strength of a percentage on a website.

Your account

You need an account to see and keep your results. Please give a real email address you can access, keep your password to yourself, and don’t use someone else’s account or create one in someone else’s name.

Tell us through the contact form if you think someone else is using your account, and we will help you secure it.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

  • Break the law, or use NowWhat to harm, harass or impersonate anyone.
  • Try to get at other people's accounts, answers or results.
  • Attack, overload or probe the service, or try to get around its security or access controls.
  • Scrape, copy or republish our career data or other content as your own product.
  • Automate submissions, create accounts in bulk, or flood the contact form.
  • Upload anything malicious, or anything you don't have the right to send us.

If someone is using NowWhat in a way that breaks these rules, we may suspend or remove their access. If that is you and you think we have it wrong, get in touch and we will look again.

Your content

Your quiz answers and anything you send us stay yours. You give us permission to store and process them so we can run the service for you — generating your matches, keeping them for your return visits, and replying to your messages. Nothing more. The Privacy Policy sets out the detail.

Our content

The NowWhat name, the site design, the career dataset and the matching logic belong to us. You are welcome to use the service and share your own results; please don’t take the underlying content and pass it off as yours.

Availability

We try to keep NowWhat working and accurate, but it is a free service offered as it is. We don’t promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, or free of mistakes, and we may change, pause or withdraw features — including free ones — as the product develops.

We may also need to take it offline for maintenance, usually without notice if something is broken.

Limits on our liability

We are not responsible for decisions you make based on your results. Choosing a course, a job, an apprenticeship or anything else is your decision, and the consequences of it — financial or otherwise — sit with you and the people advising you, not with us.

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for lost earnings, lost opportunities, wasted course fees, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of NowWhat, or from the service being unavailable or inaccurate.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights.

Ending it

You can stop using NowWhat whenever you like, and you can ask us to delete your account and results at any time through the contact form.

We may suspend or close an account that is breaking these terms, or close the service down entirely — in which case we will give account holders reasonable notice where we can.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and significant changes will be flagged to account holders rather than left for you to spot. Continuing to use NowWhat after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes fall to the courts of Zürich, Switzerland.

If you use NowWhat as a consumer, this choice does not take away the protection of any mandatory consumer law in the country where you live, and it does not stop you bringing proceedings in the courts of that country where the law gives you that right.
